James Ransom-Wiley of Joystiq.com writes :

Good ol’ Crazy Joe is at it again! He’s set up a (legit!) donation drive via Ultima Online to support South Asia in the wake of the tsunamis. Basically, on all non-Asian servers, there are vendors (listed below, here) that are selling junk for “crazy-high” prices (i.e. players buying the junk are really just making a donation), or there are areas where you can just drop gold into “locked” piles.

It takes a lot of virtual gold (sold on eBay) to produce real world money (see status), but as word spreads, Joe’s relief fund will certainly make a difference. So if you’re an Ultima Online player, don’t forget to stop by and drop some gold.

Turns out they have been keeping up with me!

Mention of the Ebay pulling the auctions :

Crazy Joe & the Ultima Online Red Cross drive have hit a major snag. eBay has shut down all of the virtual gold auctions on its site—more than one-third having been bid on already. eBay was forced to make the move due to strict policies governing charitable solicitations.

Basically, they didn’t trust Crazy Joe to be handling all that money in his own name. Ain’t it tragic when the past actions of a few bad apples spoil the good intentions of an honest man? Still, Joe has got to be optimistic, given all the positive response; let’s hope he finds a way to complete this effort after all.

Thanks again James!
